Local briefs: Rocket girls 4th

ALBUQUERQUE — The Goddard girls tennis secured a fourth-place finish at the Albuquerque Academy Invitational, Saturday.

The Lady Rockets opened the day with a 6-3 win over Bosque Prep before falling 9-0 to Albuquerque Academy in the third-place match.

Against Bosque, singles winners for the Rockets were Gabby Joyce (first), Katie Hillman (fourth), Anisha Suri (fifth) and Sidra Ali (sixth). Joyce and Hillman won at second doubles and Suri and Ali won at third doubles.

 

Boys tennis

Goddard fifth in ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE — The Goddard boys tennis team split a pair at the Albuquerque Academy Invitational and finished fifth out of eight teams, Saturday.

The Rockets opened with a 6-3 loss to Bosque Prep and then beat Belen 7-2 in the fifth-place match.

Against Bosque, singles winners for the Rockets were Martin Joyce (fifth) and Derrick Collins (sixth). Joyce and Collins also combined to win at third doubles.

Against Belen, singles winners were Tristan Collar (second), Darren Powers (third), Eric Lamm (fourth) and Joyce (fifth).

Konnor Kundomal and Collar won at first doubles, Powers and Lamm won at second doubles and Joyce and Collins won at third doubles.

Women’s tennis

NMMI battles weather

OKLAHOMA CITY — The NMMI women’s tennis had one match cancelled and another match shortened by weather at the Oklahoma City tournament, Saturday.

The Broncos won two matches during a weather-shortened match with Seminole State. Samantha Dunn and Valentina Beresiarte won 8-6 at second doubles and Beresiarte won 6-3, 6-2 at second singles.

Adalyn Hazelmen led 6-1, 4-2 at third singles and Jazmine Burt led 6-2, 5-1 at sixth singles before the match was called off.

The Broncos’ match against Seward County was cancelled.

College baseball

Clarendon 6-7, NMMI 4-0

CLARENDON, Texas — The NMMI Bronco baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader with conference foe Clarendon, Saturday.

In Game 1, Clarendon jumped ahead 5-0 in the first before NMMI closed the gap to 5-4 in the fourth. Clarendon tacked on one more run in the sixth.

Laurence Marsach pitched a complete game for NMMI and took the loss.

In Game 2, the Broncos had two golden scoring opportunities in the first and second innings, but couldn’t capitalize in a shutout loss.

The Broncos had a runner on third with one out in the first and had runners on second and third with nobody out in the second, but couldn’t come up with a clutch hit.

Rafael Belloc took the loss for NMMI.
