Boys tennis

Artesia 7, Roswell 2

ARTESIA — The Roswell boys tennis team lost to Artesia on Tuesday in the semifinals of the District 4-4A tournament.

Roswell’s two wins came from Dylan McArthur (fourth singles; 6-1, 6-4 over Jimmy Darnell) and Juan Macias and Jesus Atienzo (second doubles; 7-6, 7-6 over Zach Reid and Rodrigo Natera).

Girls tennis

Artesia 6, Roswell 3

ARTESIA — The Roswell girls tennis team lost to Artesia on Tuesday in the semifinals of the District 4-4A tournament.

Roswell’s singles victories came from Jesse Jennings (first; 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 over Kelli Richards) and Mariana Flores (second; 6-1, 7-5 over Mayra Jimenez). The Coyotes’ doubles win came from Latrica Velasquez and Ashley Cannon (third; 6-3, 6-1 over Jimenez and Ana Uribe).

Prep baseball

NMMI 5, Eunice 1

EUNICE — NMMI came away with a big road victory over Eunice on Tuesday.

The game was scoreless through three innings before the Colts took the lead with a two-run fourth. NMMI added three insurance runs in the fifth, but they wouldn’t need them as Scott Schwab kept the Eunice batters off-balance most of the game.

Chance Cavin had a big game at the plate for NMMI, going 3 for 4 with four RBIs.

Boys golf

Goddard 5th, Roswell 7th at Hobbs

HOBBS — The Goddard Rockets finished fifth and the Roswell Coyotes finished seventh at the Hobbs Invitational at Ocotillo Park Golf Course, Tuesday.

The Rockets finished with a team aggregate of 334 and Roswell totaled 350. Hobbs won the team title at 294, while Clovis was second at 307 and Carlsbad was third at 313.

Tom Snyder led the Rockets with an 81. Kemp Kuykendall shot 83, Ian Garcia and Bryce Mott each carded 85s and Ian Rodriguez shot an 89.

Henry Candelaria led the Coyotes with a 78. Jake Andreis shot 80, Zach Jennings shot 90 and Daniel Lopez shot 102.

Hobbs’ Kenneth Fadke was the individual medalist after shooting 69 and Ethan Peterson finished as runner-up after carding 72.

NMMI’s Lance Hinkle shot 101 and Dexter’s Nathan Fuller shot 85.

Girls golf

Engelhard medals

HOBBS — Goddard’s Emilee Engelhard fired an 83 on Tuesday at Ocotillo Park Golf Course and earned individual medalist honors at the Hobbs Invitational.

Engelhard edged teammate Sara Garcia, Portales’ Paige Hartman and Carlsbad’s Lexi Saunders by one shot for the honor.

Gabby Baker shot 95 for the Rockets, who could not post a team score after Mariah Sandoval was disqualified.

Lovington won the team title with a team aggregate of 366. Clovis was second (367) and Portales was third (375).

Roswell’s Amanda Silvas, Haley Bolanos and Shary Cain shot 106, 113 and 117, respectively. NMMI’s Nina Martinez carded a 98.
